Draft Environmental Assessment Available
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Port of Friday Harbor (Port) announce the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) for the proposed Southwest Development Area (SWDA) Project at the Friday Harbor Regional Airport in Friday Harbor, San Juan County, Washington, for public review and comment. The Draft EA examines the potential environmental impacts of the Proposed Action to accommodate current and forecasted demand for aircraft operations at the Airport and meet design standards established by the FAA. The proposed improvements would include developing aircraft storage and parking facilities, various aircraft operations areas, and supporting infrastructure in the SWDA.
The Draft EA will be available for public review and comment beginning on September 18, 2026. A hard copy of the Draft EA can be made available upon request by contacting Todd Nicholson at (360) 378-2688 or toddn@portfridayharbor.org. The Draft EA will also be made available in electronic format on the Port of Friday Harbor website at: https://www.portfridayharbor.org/airport-environmental-assessment-report/
Public Comment Period
Public comment on this document is invited for a 30-day period extending from September 18, 2026 through October 18, 2026. The purpose of the Public Comment period is to facilitate informed decision-making by the FAA by ensuring relevant environmental information is identified, analyzed, and shared with the public. All comments on the Draft EA must be received by 5:00 pm on October 18, 2026 to be considered.
