Public Notice: Solar Parking Canopy Construction
Project Timeline
The Port of Friday Harbor will begin construction of a solar canopy structure in the Upper Marina Parking Lot starting February 27th, 2026, pending permitting and material delivery. Phase 1 will begin on that date, followed by Phase 2 starting April 1. The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
Project Overview
- Structure: A metal-frame solar canopy measuring approximately 207 feet long by 47 feet wide, with a 14-foot clearance.
- Purpose: To generate clean, renewable energy for Port operations and support the Port’s sustainability and electrification goals.
Parking Impacts
- Temporary Disruptions: Construction will occur in two phases, with approximately 26 parking spaces temporarily closed at one time. Parking will remain available in the section not under active construction, ensuring continuous access throughout the project. Work begins in Phase 1 and moves to Phase 2.
- Alternative Parking: Visitors and tenants are encouraged to use overflow parking areas and designated street parking.
- Signage & Detours: Clear signage will guide traffic and pedestrians safely around the construction zone.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve our facilities and reduce our environmental footprint. For questions or more information, please contact the Port of Friday Harbor.
