Article: Repair of Breakwater at Jensen’s Marina
Over the last two months, the Capitol Projects team has been hard at work re-designing and repairing the floating breakwater at Jensen’s Marina. This project requires applying new technology and materials in order to meet the demands of unforgiving wave action and commercial traffic in that area.
The current breakwater has proven to be inadequate for commercial fishing boats and larger pleasure boats. The plan is to repair and stiffen the breakwater using HDPE braces on the pile hoops. Currently the breakwater is secured to the pilings by connecting chains. The HDPE braces are manufactured by the Port, and the construction should be completed in 5 to 6 weeks.

The Port anticipates that the repair will accommodate pleasure boats over 100 ft in length as well as commercial fishing vessels and barges with a much more secure dock to tie up, waiting for access to the travel lift or the barge landing. Twelve and fourteen-inch cleats, along with new walers, will improve the breakwaters’ accessibility and safety. Additionally, water will be available on the dock, and four new 50/30-amp power pedestals are planned on the breakwater. All of this will greatly enhance moorage opportunities and in-water boatyard work, especially for larger boats.
